Scavenger Receptor Cysteine-Rich Type 1 Protein M130 (CD163)

Target
CD163
Molecular classification
Scavenger Receptor Cysteine-Rich Superfamily, SRCR
01

Overview

Scavenger receptor cysteine-rich type 1 protein M130, commonly known as CD163, is an acute phase-regulated transmembrane protein primarily expressed on monocytes and macrophages. CD163 plays a crucial role in the clearance and endocytosis of hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes by macrophages, thereby protecting tissues from free hemoglobin-mediated oxidative damage. Elevated levels of sCD163 are associated with various inflammatory diseases and serve as indicators of macrophage activation status.
