Overview

SCG3 antisense RNA 1 (SCG3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA that is transcribed antisense to the Secretogranin III (SCG3) gene. Antisense lncRNAs often regulate the expression of their partner sense genes or nearby loci through mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, or RNA:RNA interactions [3][4]. While antisense lncRNAs in general are implicated in gene expression regulation and have context-dependent roles in cancer, proliferation, apoptosis, and development, there is currently limited data in the literature specifying the functional or disease role of SCG3-AS1 itself [4]. SCG3-AS1 is not a canonical therapeutic target (such as a receptor or enzyme), nor is it currently targeted by drugs or validated as a biomarker. The associated SCG3 gene encodes Secretogranin III, a granin family protein important in neuroendocrine secretion and tumor diagnostics, but SCG3-AS1 does not code for a protein and has principally regulatory potential [2][3][4]. If you require information about the associated protein Secretogranin III (SCG3), which is a protein-coding gene with emerging disease relevance [2][5], that can be provided separately.

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression [3][4]Modulation of chromatin state or epigenetic marks (inferred from general lncRNA/AS-lncRNA function) [4]Potential roles in cell proliferation, cell death, signal transduction, and disease biology (based on function of antisense lncRNAs; specific data for SCG3-AS1 is limited) [3][4]

Disease associations

OtherNo direct evidence supports a defined role in a particular disease for SCG3-AS1, but antisense lncRNAs are increasingly being studied for possible roles in cancer, neurodegeneration, and other diseases [4]. Publications on SCG3-AS1 in specific diseases are not prominent.
