Target intelligence / Profile preview
The schistosome muscle cell membrane refers to the plasma membrane enclosing the muscle cells of schistosomes. While vital for maintaining muscle cell integrity, regulating ion flux, and facilitating muscle contraction, this membrane is not itself a canonical therapeutic target. Most anti-schistosomal drugs target molecular components such as ion channels, surface proteins, or enzymes rather than the membrane as a whole. In research, the focus is generally on the tegument, the specialized outer membrane of the entire worm, which has unique molecular features and is the interface with the host immune system[1][2][3][4].
