Overview

Schlafen-like protein 1 (SLFNL1) is a human protein sharing partial homology with the Schlafen (SLFN) family, a group involved in cell proliferation, immune responses, and nucleic acid metabolism[1][2][3]. Unlike canonical SLFN proteins (such as SLFN11, SLFN5, etc.), SLFNL1 contains only a *partial* SLFN domain in its C-terminus and an unknown N-terminal domain, making its function and biological relevance unclear[1]. It is evolutionarily distinct from viral Schlafen (v-Slfn) proteins found in orthopoxviruses, which are better characterized. While SLFN proteins as a group participate in processes relevant to DNA replication and immune defense[1][2][3], the specific molecular mechanism, cellular functions, and physiological or pathological roles of SLFNL1 remain uncharacterized. No drugs or therapeutic interventions targeting SLFNL1 have been reported, and it is not currently considered a therapeutic target[1]. Further studies are needed to elucidate the significance of SLFNL1 in human health and disease. Note: - SLFNL1 is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target or as a well-characterized molecule. There is no data on its involvement in disease, known function, drug interactions, or as a biomarker. Its inclusion in lists of targets should be treated with caution until further functional evidence is provided[1].
