Overview

SILC1 (Sciatic injury induced lincRNA upregulator of SOX11; also named FLJ30594, LOC150622) is a long non-coding RNA, highly expressed in neural tissue and induced rapidly following neuronal activity such as learning or nerve injury[4][7]. SILC1 acts in *cis* to activate the transcription factor SOX11, triggering a neuronal growth-associated transcriptional program that facilitates nerve regeneration and efficient memory formation[4]. SILC1 is conserved in mammals, expressed prominently in the hippocampus, and is important for spatial learning. Its expression declines during aging and in models of Alzheimer’s disease, suggesting involvement in neurodegenerative conditions. SILC1 is not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and no drugs currently target this molecule. It serves primarily as a regulatory RNA that modulates gene expression in neurons and acts as a potential biomarker of neuronal regenerative capacity[4][7].
