Overview

Scm polycomb group protein homolog 1 (SCMH1) is a chromatin-binding protein and a crucial component of the mammalian Polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1), fundamentally involved in maintaining transcriptional repression of target genes via histone modifications and chromatin remodeling[1][3][4]. SCMH1 plays an essential role during spermatogenesis by orchestrating proper chromatin modification at the XY chromatin domain; loss of SCMH1 leads to apoptosis in late pachytene spermatocytes due to failure of chromatin remodeling[1].
