Overview

Scm polycomb group protein like 1 (SCML1) is a putative member of the Polycomb group (PcG) proteins, which are involved in forming multiprotein complexes to maintain the transcriptionally repressive state of target genes throughout development. It is predicted to enable chromatin and histone binding and functions as a transcriptional repressor, likely playing roles in germ cell nuclei, and may be involved in spermatogenesis. While deletion of the SCML1 locus can co-occur with developmental disorders, SCML1 itself is not currently considered a direct therapeutic or pharmacological target[1][8][9][11].
