Overview

SCYL2 pseudogene 1 (SCYL2P1) is a non-protein-coding pseudogene related to the SCYL2 gene. Unlike its functional counterpart, SCYL2P1 does not produce a protein and, to current scientific knowledge, has no direct biochemical or physiological function. Pseudogenes like SCYL2P1 are generally regarded as defunct genomic relics of functional genes, sometimes transcribed but not translated into protein. In contrast, the functional SCYL2 gene is a member of the SCY1-like pseudokinase family involved in clathrin-mediated trafficking and neuronal function[2][3]. However, SCYL2P1 is not regarded as a druggable therapeutic target or receptor.
