Overview

SDHA pseudogene 3 (SDHAP3) is a non-coding pseudogene in humans that shares sequence homology with SDHA, the succinate dehydrogenase complex flavoprotein subunit A gene, but does not produce a functional protein. Unlike the protein-coding SDHA gene, which is involved in mitochondrial energy metabolism and is implicated in several cancer syndromes and metabolic diseases, SDHAP3 lacks known biological function, disease relevance, signaling pathways, or therapeutic interactions. It is located on chromosome 5 and has previously been referred to by aliases such as SDHAL and SDHACL. SDHAP3 is included in genomic databases to help distinguish it from the functional SDHA sequence and prevent misinterpretation in gene targeting or expression analyses. Researchers must be careful not to confuse SDHAP3 with SDHA in experimental designs and drug discovery applications[5][7].
