Overview

SDHA pseudogene 4 (SDHAP4) is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 3q29 that shares sequence similarity to the functional SDHA gene but does not appear to encode a functional protein. The SDHA gene encodes a flavoprotein subunit (SDHA) of succinate dehydrogenase, which is a key component of mitochondrial energy metabolism and acts as a tumor suppressor. In contrast, SDHAP4 is not involved in these processes. While pseudogenes occasionally play regulatory roles, there is currently no evidence that SDHAP4 is involved in disease, drug interactions, or biological regulation. References to SDHAP4 should not be confused with the clinically relevant SDHA gene and protein.

Mechanism of action

None for SDHAP4; mechanisms described in the literature pertain to SDHA

03

Biological functions

None confirmed; as a pseudogene, SDHAP4 does not perform biological functions associated with the SDHA protein
04

Disease associations

None established for SDHAP4 itself. Mutations in the functional gene SDHA, not SDHAP4, are associated with diseases including paraganglioma, pheochromocytoma, Leigh syndrome, dilated cardiomyopathy, wild-type gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), and others.
