SDK1 antisense RNA 1 (SDK1-AS1)

Target
SDK1-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Natural antisense transcript, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

SDK1 antisense RNA 1 (SDK1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA molecule transcribed from the SDK1 locus, on the opposite (antisense) DNA strand relative to the SDK1 protein-coding gene. As an antisense RNA, it is likely to regulate SDK1 expression through hybridization and post-transcriptional or epigenetic mechanisms, including RNA interference, transcriptional interference, or modulation of chromatin structure. Although the general class of antisense lncRNAs is linked to fundamental biological processes such as X-chromosome inactivation, genomic imprinting, and disease development, there is currently no direct evidence that SDK1-AS1 itself serves as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug-interacting molecule in humans.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; no known drugs directly target SDK1-AS1

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression through RNA–RNA interactionsLikely involved in epigenetic and transcript-level modulation of SDK1 expressionMay participate in transcription interference and RNA interference mechanisms (via formation of complementary double-stranded structures with SDK1 mRNA)
04

Disease associations

None currently specific or established for SDK1-AS1; more generally, antisense lncRNAs are implicated in cancer, genomic imprinting, and other regulatory/inflammatory conditions
