Sebaceous follicle keratinocytes are the epithelial cells that line the hair follicles associated with sebaceous glands. These cells are a specialized subset of keratinocytes—the predominant cell type in the epidermis—responsible for forming a protective barrier against environmental insults such as pathogens, UV radiation, and dehydration[6][8]. Within sebaceous follicles, these keratinocytes play a key role in regulating the process of cornification and desquamation. Abnormalities in their function or differentiation can contribute to diseases like acne by promoting hyperkeratosis and clogging follicles with sebum produced by adjacent sebaceous glands[1][2].
