SEC14-like lipid binding protein 1 (SEC14L1) is a cytosolic lipid transfer protein in the SEC14 family that coordinates lipid metabolism and membrane trafficking, primarily through interaction with phosphoinositides and other lipophilic molecules[1][5]. SEC14L1 has a SEC14 domain which enables it to regulate the distribution and presentation of lipids between membranes, a function conserved across eukaryotes[3]. In humans, SEC14L1 also acts as a negative regulator of innate immunity by binding the CARD domain of RIG-I, inhibiting downstream signaling for interferon β production and thus modulating antiviral responses[1][4][5]. Overexpression of SEC14L1 has been correlated with tumor progression and genomic instability in cancers such as prostate cancer[1]. The protein is linked to additional cellular functions such as vesicle trafficking, lipid signaling, and potentially, the development of neurodegenerative diseases when mutated[2][3]. To date, SEC14L1 is primarily recognized for its regulatory and modulatory roles in cell biology and has no known drugs that specifically target it for therapeutic intervention[5].
