Target intelligence / Profile preview
SEC14-like lipid binding protein 4 (SEC14L4) is a member of the SEC14 superfamily, characterized by a lipid-binding SEC14 domain capable of transporting and exchanging small lipophilic molecules, such as phospholipids and other hydrophobic substrates, between intracellular membranes. SEC14L4 and related proteins are essential regulators of membrane identity, vesicular trafficking, and phosphoinositide metabolism and signaling in eukaryotic cells. By functioning as phosphatidylinositol transfer proteins (PITPs), SEC14-like proteins facilitate diverse cellular processes, including signal transduction, adaptation to environmental stimuli, cell division, and organismal development. Mutations in SEC14 superfamily members have been implicated in cancer, neurodegeneration, and developmental disorders, underscoring their biological and therapeutic significance. No direct therapeutic agents targeting SEC14L4 have been developed, but ongoing research in lipid signaling pathways may yield future modulators or inhibitors.
Drugs targeting SEC14 domain proteins typically modulate lipid transport or exchange, thus affecting phosphoinositide signaling and membrane trafficking. Potential future mechanisms may include inhibition or enhancement of lipid-transfer activity.
