SEC14-like protein 5 (SEC14L5)

Target
SEC14L5
Molecular classification
Lipid transfer protein, SEC14-like phosphatidylinositol transfer protein (PITP)
01

Overview

SEC14-like protein 5 is part of a large family of lipid transfer proteins defined by the SEC14 domain, which enables binding and transport of lipophilic molecules such as phospholipids between cellular membranes. SEC14L5's specific biological function in humans is not well characterized, but the family generally plays a role in membrane trafficking, lipid signaling, and regulation of membrane identity[2][4]. Studies in yeast and plants show members of this family regulate cellular adaptation to environmental changes, influence cell division and development, and mutations are associated with defects in stress responses and increased risk of neurodegenerative diseases and cancer in humans[2]. Direct data on SEC14L5's structure, ligand specificity, and disease relevance remain limited.
