Overview

SEC22 vesicle trafficking protein homolog C (SEC22C) is a member of the SNARE (soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor) protein family involved in membrane fusion and vesicle trafficking, primarily in the early stages of protein transport between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus. It is a transmembrane protein with multiple isoforms generated by alternative splicing, affecting its subcellular localization between the ER and Golgi. SEC22C forms part of the molecular machinery that mediates anterograde and retrograde vesicular transport and is critical for maintaining normal cargo trafficking and endomembrane organization. Dysfunction or mutation of SEC22 SNARE family members is associated with diseases such as atherosclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease[1][2][3][4].
