Target
SEC23IP
Molecular classification
Enzyme (Phospholipase), Intracellular protein, COPII vesicle machinery component
01

Overview

SEC23-interacting protein (SEC23IP) is encoded by the SEC23IP gene in humans and localizes to intracellular compartments, particularly the cytoplasm and regions associated with ER-to-Golgi trafficking[1][5]. It interacts with Sec23p, a key component of the COPII vesicle coat, and shares structural similarity with phospholipases A1, with a preference for phosphatidic acid substrates[1][7]. Overexpression or dysregulation of SEC23IP can lead to disorganization of the ER-Golgi intermediate compartment and Golgi apparatus, suggesting an essential role in early secretory pathway organization and membrane trafficking. Its molecular activities include protein and metal ion binding, phospholipase activity, and potential involvement in RNA binding, contributing to membrane lipid dynamics and vesicle formation[1][2][4][7]. There is currently no established link between SEC23IP and major human diseases or use in therapeutics, nor is SEC23IP recognized as a biomarker for disease monitoring or drug response[1][7][6]. SEC23IP is not targeted by any known drugs.
