Target intelligence / Profile preview
SEC23A antisense RNA 1 (SEC23A-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed in antisense orientation to the SEC23A gene. Like other lncRNA antisense transcripts, it regulates gene expression primarily via cis- or trans-acting mechanisms, modifying the transcription, stability, or translation of the SEC23A mRNA. Antisense RNA molecules are increasingly recognized as important regulators at multiple levels of gene expression and may play roles in disease modulation, particularly where dysregulation of gene expression contributes to pathology. While SEC23A has established roles in vesicle trafficking and is associated with developmental disorders and some cancers, SEC23A-AS1 itself is not yet characterized as a direct therapeutic target. The molecule is cataloged in gene databases, but specific functional, disease, and therapeutic data may be limited or preliminary. If additional, structured functional or disease data become available on SEC23A-AS1, it may clarify its role and potential as a therapeutic or biomarker. Currently, it is best classified as a long non-coding antisense RNA with regulatory functions.
Antisense RNAs can mediate silencing or activation of target genes via transcriptional interference, RNA degradation, splicing modulation, or translational inhibition. ASOs typically induce RNase H-mediated cleavage or block translation
