Overview

SEC23A antisense RNA 1 (SEC23A-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed in antisense orientation to the SEC23A gene. Like other lncRNA antisense transcripts, it regulates gene expression primarily via cis- or trans-acting mechanisms, modifying the transcription, stability, or translation of the SEC23A mRNA. Antisense RNA molecules are increasingly recognized as important regulators at multiple levels of gene expression and may play roles in disease modulation, particularly where dysregulation of gene expression contributes to pathology.
