SEC24 homolog A pseudogene 1 (SEC24AP1) is a pseudogene homologous to the SEC24 gene family, which encodes components of the COPII vesicle coat involved in endoplasmic reticulum-to-Golgi transport in eukaryotic cells. Unlike its protein-coding relatives, SEC24AP1 does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes may have regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as influencing expression of their parent genes through competing endogenous RNA activity, or may generate small regulatory RNAs. However, there is no evidence that SEC24AP1 is a functional biomarker, drug target, or has direct involvement in human disease.
