Overview

SEC24B antisense RNA 1 (SEC24B-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on human chromosome 4[5][7]. It is transcribed antisense to the SEC24B gene and classified as a lncRNA—a class of transcripts involved in regulation of gene expression at the RNA level rather than encoding proteins[3][8]. The RNA contains a single Alu element and appears capable of targeting similar elements in other genes (such as the 3' UTR Alu of MTAP), where its downregulation can lead to upregulation of such targets[3]. SEC24B-AS1 is affiliated with the regulation of nearby genes and possibly broader chromatin and transcriptional regulation functions, as is characteristic of many nuclear lncRNAs[2][8]. Diseases associated with SEC24B-AS1 include glioma susceptibility, although its role is largely inferred from genetic association studies and not established as a direct molecular target for drug intervention[3]. There are currently no drugs, biomarkers, or clinical safety concerns specifically applied to SEC24B-AS1, and it is not classified as a conventional therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or ion channel.

Disease associations

Glioma susceptibility (association reported)[3]Other roles typical of lncRNAs, possibly including various cancers, but specific associations for SEC24B-AS1 remain limited[3][8]No strong evidence for involvement in inflammation, neurodegenerative, cardiovascular diseases, or infection.
