Secale cereale (rye) pollen allergens are a complex mixture of protein components that trigger allergic immune responses in sensitized individuals. The pollen contains over 30 distinct allergenic proteins, with major allergens including group 1, 2, 4, and 5 allergen families, characterized by molecular weights of 28, 33, 48, and 67 kDa. These glycoproteins are released rapidly from pollen grains upon hydration, with approximately 40% of total allergenic proteins released within the first 5 minutes of water exposure. Rye pollen represents a significant environmental cause of allergic rhinitis, asthma, and conjunctivitis worldwide, particularly in temperate regions where cultivated rye is grown. The allergens exhibit extensive cross-reactivity with other grass pollen species in the Poaceae family, making molecular component-resolved diagnostics important for accurate patient assessment. Importantly, this entry represents an allergen source rather than a therapeutic drug target, making it unsuitable for inclusion in a therapeutic target database.
