Overview

Secreted frizzled-related protein 4 (SFRP4) is a secreted glycoprotein belonging to the SFRP family, characterized by a cysteine-rich domain homologous to the Wnt-binding site of Frizzled receptors. SFRP4 acts primarily as a soluble antagonist of Wnt signaling, modulating cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation in various tissues. Its clinical significance includes roles in tumorigenesis (serving as an oncogenic or tumor suppressive factor depending on context), regulation of insulin secretion with implications for diabetes, effects on bone remodeling, and immune microenvironment modulation.
