Overview

Secretion associated Ras related GTPase 1A pseudogene 4 (SAR1AP4) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome corresponding to the parental gene SAR1A, which encodes a small GTPase involved in protein trafficking from the endoplasmic reticulum. As a pseudogene, SAR1AP4 does not encode a functional protein and is not known to serve as a direct drug target, biomarker, or therapeutic entity. Pseudogenes in general can have roles in gene regulation—such as serving as sources of noncoding RNAs that impact the expression of protein-coding genes—but these regulatory functions are only established for a minority of pseudogenes and not specifically for SAR1AP4. There is no evidence that SAR1AP4 is directly implicated in any disease, nor that it interacts with therapeutic drugs.
