Secretion-regulating guanine nucleotide exchange factor (SERGEF) is a protein-coding gene product that is believed to act as a guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) involved in the negative regulation of protein secretion[1][7]. Its molecular function appears related to promoting the exchange of GDP for GTP on target GTPases, a common mechanism of regulating vesicular trafficking within the cell. It localizes to the cytosol and nucleoplasm and is expressed in multiple human tissues[7][9][10]. SERGEF has been reported as a biomarker for atherosclerosis, but there is limited evidence supporting its direct, actionable role as a therapeutic target or its involvement in major disease pathways.
