Secretoglobin family 1C member 1 (SCGB1C1), also known as RYD5, is a secreted mammalian protein of the secretoglobin superfamily characterized by a small, alpha-helical, dimeric structure with a ligand-binding cavity[4][5]. SCGB1C1 is highly expressed in the mucosa of the human respiratory tract and plays a key regulatory role in the suppression of allergic airway inflammation, mainly by expanding regulatory T cells (Tregs) and altering cytokine expression profiles (decreasing pro-inflammatory IL-4/IL-5, increasing anti-inflammatory IL-10/TGF-β)[1]. Its potential as a modulator of respiratory and possibly immune diseases is suggested by studies showing improved airway outcomes following SCGB1C1 administration in preclinical asthma models[1]. SCGB1C1 is not known to serve as a receptor, enzyme, or classic pharmacological target, and currently, there are no known drugs that directly interact with it as a therapeutic target[5][1].
