Overview

Secretogranin II (SCG2) is a neuroendocrine secretory protein belonging to the granin family, primarily expressed in neuroendocrine cells. It is pivotal for sorting and packaging neuropeptides and hormones within secretory vesicles. SCG2 undergoes proteolytic cleavage to produce active peptides, most notably secretoneurin, which exerts potent angiogenic and chemotactic influences and plays roles in immune cell migration, endothelial function, and neurodevelopment. The protein and its peptides have diagnostic and prognostic relevance, especially in neuroendocrine tumors, cardiovascular diseases, and developmental disorders, but SCG2 itself is not a classical drug target such as an enzyme or receptor
