Secretory blood group 1, pseudogene (SEC1P) in humans is a member of the \u03b11,2-fucosyltransferase gene family that also includes FUT1 and FUT2, genes responsible for the biosynthesis of H antigen, a precursor for ABO blood group antigens[3][4]. In most mammals, the *Sec1* gene has become a pseudogene, meaning it no longer encodes a functional enzyme[1][2][3][4]. In the rabbit and some other leporids, *Sec1* retains partial function and has undergone *neofunctionalization*, acquiring a potential immunological role in pathogen resistance, but in humans, SEC1P is non-functional[1][2][3]. Human variation in \u03b11,2-fucosylated glycan expression (which determines the "secretor" phenotype) is instead mediated by polymorphisms in the FUT2 gene[3]. Therefore, SEC1P is not a therapeutic target and does not have a known physiological, therapeutic, or disease role in humans.
