Secretory Phospholipase A2 Group X (sPLA2-X)

Target
sPLA2-X
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Secreted Phospholipase A2
01

Overview

Secretory PLA2 group X (sPLA2-X) is a member of the secreted phospholipase A2 family. It is a calcium-dependent enzyme that hydrolyzes phospholipids, preferentially targeting phosphatidylcholines and phosphatidylglycerols. sPLA2-X plays a critical role in inflammation and immunity by releasing arachidonic acid, a precursor for pro-inflammatory mediators. It also contributes to lipoprotein remodeling and is implicated in the pathogenesis of asthma, allergy, and atherosclerosis. Its expression and activity are regulated by inflammatory signals, making it a potential therapeutic target.
