SEZ6 is a single-pass transmembrane protein predominantly expressed in the nervous system, playing critical roles in neuronal development, synaptic function, and membrane signaling. It acts as a trafficking factor for kainate receptor subunits GluK2/3, modulating their glycosylation and surface expression. Additionally, SEZ6 inhibits complement activation by facilitating Factor I-mediated cleavage of C3b/iC3b. It is implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and psychiatric conditions due to its role in synaptic maintenance.
