Overview
SELENOO antisense RNA 1 (SELENOO-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA gene located opposite the protein-coding SELENOO gene in the human genome. Like other antisense lncRNAs, SELENOO-AS1 does not encode any protein but may regulate the expression or splicing of its sense counterpart or other genes. Antisense lncRNAs can modulate gene function through diverse mechanisms, including RNA-RNA interactions, chromatin remodeling, and transcriptional interference, and their deregulation has been associated with disease states such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. However, SELENOO-AS1 itself is not known to be directly involved in human disease nor is it considered a conventional drug target at this time.
