Overview

Selenoprotein V (SELENOV) is a recently evolved selenoprotein, detected primarily in the cytoplasm of testicular cells and mammalian placenta, with very limited characterization in the literature[1]. It is similar in sequence to selenoprotein W but possesses a larger N-terminal domain whose function is unknown[1]. SELENOV appears to play a role in male reproductive physiology, as knockout studies in mice show it influences the expression and activity of various other selenoproteins involved in selenium homeostasis, such as Gpx1 and SELENOP[1]. However, the precise molecular function and mechanisms remain uncharacterized, and there is no current evidence for direct association with human disease states or therapeutic targeting[1].
