SEMA5A antisense RNA 1 (SEMA5A-AS1)

Target
SEMA5A-AS1
Molecular classification
Other, Long noncoding RNA, lncRNA

Overview

SEMA5A antisense RNA 1 (SEMA5A-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA gene located on chromosome 5p15.31, transcribed antisense to the SEMA5A locus. Like other lncRNAs, it may regulate gene expression through epigenetic, transcriptional, or post-transcriptional mechanisms. There is currently no direct evidence for disease association, biological function, or drug interaction for SEMA5A-AS1. Most available studies focus on the protein-coding SEMA5A gene—an axon guidance membrane protein implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders and cancer—rather than the antisense noncoding transcript.

Biological functions

Currently unclear; typically, antisense lncRNAs regulate expression of their sense gene (here, SEMA5A), often via epigenetic or transcriptional modulation, but direct biological functions of SEMA5A-AS1 are not characterized in the available sources.
03

Disease associations

No direct disease association is established for SEMA5A-AS1; the sense gene (SEMA5A) is involved in autism, cancer, and other developmental disorders, but this does not necessarily apply to SEMA5A-AS1.
