Semaphorin 4D (SEMA4D), also known as CD100, is a Class IV member of the semaphorin family. It exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms and plays diverse roles across multiple biological systems. In the neural system, it acts as an axon guidance molecule. In the immune system, it is involved in B-cell and T-cell regulation. It also regulates angiogenesis and is implicated in tumor progression. SEMA4D is being investigated as a therapeutic target in cancer, autoimmune diseases, and neurodegeneration.
Blocking antibodies against SEMA4D inhibit tumor-associated angiogenesis.
