Overview

Semaphorin 6A antisense RNA 1 (SEMA6A-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the SEMA6A gene on chromosome 5. SEMA6A-AS1 overlaps with its sense counterpart SEMA6A and directly binds to SEMA6A mRNA, promoting its degradation and thereby downregulating SEMA6A protein expression. Functionally, SEMA6A-AS1 inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression by suppressing cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, inducing cytoskeletal remodeling, and causing G1 cell cycle arrest. Reduced expression of SEMA6A-AS1 in HBV-related HCC is consistently associated with worse clinical outcomes and poor prognosis, making it a candidate prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target in liver cancer[1][2][3]. No drugs are currently known to act directly on SEMA6A-AS1, nor are there established drug mechanisms targeting it.
