Senescence associated long non-coding RNA 2 (SALRNA2, also known as SAL-RNA2 or XLOC_025931) is a non-coding RNA identified in human fibroblasts that is upregulated during replicative senescence[3]. Functional studies using siRNA-mediated silencing of SALRNA2 in senescent cells result in increased apoptosis and reduced survival, as evidenced by increased levels of cleaved PARP and p53, and a decrease in cell number[3]. This suggests a role for SALRNA2 in protecting the survival of senescent cells, potentially impacting cell aging, tissue homeostasis, and possibly cancer biology. It is not currently considered a classical drug target but may serve as a biomarker for the senescent cell state or for monitoring interventions affecting cell survival during senescence. The specific interacting proteins or regulatory mechanisms remain to be fully elucidated[3].
