Sensory Neuropeptide Release

Molecular classification
Process/Function, Multiple Peptides
01

Overview

Sensory neuropeptide release refers to the calcium-dependent exocytosis of neuropeptides, such as substance P, CGRP, and neurokinin A, from sensory neurons, particularly primary afferent (nociceptive) fibers, in response to various stimuli. This process plays a crucial role in modulating pain perception, inflammation, vasodilation, immune cell recruitment, and tissue repair. It is implicated in various pathophysiological conditions, including neurogenic inflammation, asthma, migraine, and chronic pain states.
