Its primary role is in the morphogenesis and elongation of sperm heads and tails during spermatogenesis, likely via association with tubulins. Variants or dysfunction of SEPTIN12 are associated with specific types of male infertility, especially those related to sperm motility and structural defects[2][3][6]. There is no evidence that SEPTIN12 is targeted by any current therapies or used as a clinical biomarker, and it is not a conventional drug target such as a receptor or enzyme.
