Overview

Septin-14 (SEPTIN14) is a member of the septin family of highly conserved GTP-binding cytoskeletal proteins. It functions as a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase, involved mainly in the migration of cortical neurons during brain development and in the formation of neuron leading processes. SEPTIN14 is abundantly expressed in brain and testis; it plays a crucial role in neuronal migration in the developing cortex via interaction with Septin-4, and is also involved in spermatogenesis and maintaining the structural integrity of sperm, particularly by associating with microtubules of the manchette during sperm morphogenesis. Loss-of-function or knockdown of SEPTIN14 leads to impaired neuronal migration and abnormal sperm development, suggesting roles in neurodevelopmental and reproductive health. No direct pharmacological modulators, interacting drugs, recognized biomarker roles, or notable safety concerns have been described for SEPTIN14.
