Septin 14 pseudogene 19 (SEPTIN14P19)

Target
SEPTIN14P19
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene, Noncoding RNA locus
01

Overview

Septin 14 pseudogene 19 (SEPTIN14P19) is a noncoding genomic locus with high sequence similarity to the SEPTIN14 gene, which encodes a member of the septin family involved in cytoskeletal organization. As a pseudogene, SEPTIN14P19 does not produce a functional protein due to disabling mutations or lack of critical regulatory elements. Pseudogenes such as SEPTIN14P19 may still be transcribed and can play roles in gene regulation, including acting as microRNA decoys or influencing RNA stability of functional paralogs or parent genes. However, there is no evidence for direct involvement in signal transduction, disease mechanisms, or drug interactions specific to SEPTIN14P19. Its function, if any, would be limited to noncoding RNA regulatory activities as described for other pseudogenes[1][3].

02

Mechanism of action

None applicable. Pseudogenes do not serve as therapeutic targets for drugs.

03

Biological functions

May act as noncoding RNA decoys or regulators in certain contextsPotential to influence gene expression through RNA competition or microRNA decoy effects described for other pseudogenes
04

Disease associations

Possible indirect roles in cancer or cellular regulation by affecting the function of their parent genes, as seen with other pseudogenesNo direct disease association is documented for SEPTIN14P19 specifically
