It is classified as a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) pseudogene located in the human genome, and is termed by several aliases including NCRNA00266-2P, LINC00266-2P, and others. Pseudogenes such as SEPTIN14P22 are generally considered non-functional remnants of once-active genes; this particular locus does not encode an active protein and there is no available evidence supporting a biological or disease-related function, nor any direct interaction with drugs or clinical biomarkers[1]. The name reflects homology with the septin family—a group of GTP-binding proteins involved in cell division, cytoskeletal organization, and other fundamental processes in functional forms[2][3]. However, pseudogenes like SEPTIN14P22 do not produce active proteins, and the septin protein functions described in the literature do not apply to this pseudogene. There is no evidence that pseudogenes of the septin family are currently considered therapeutic targets or that SEPTIN14P22 plays a role in human disease or therapy.
