Septin 14 pseudogene 3 (SEPTIN14P3)

Target
SEPTIN14P3
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)

Overview

Septin 14 pseudogene 3 is a genomically encoded DNA sequence that is homologous to the functional septin 14 gene but has acquired disabling mutations that prevent the synthesis of a functional protein. Like other pseudogenes, it may be transcribed but does not produce a functional product. Most pseudogenes, including this one, are not currently considered therapeutic targets, receptors, or enzymes, but can occasionally affect the regulation of their parental gene or act as RNA decoys. There is no known disease association, function, or interacting drugs for SEPTIN14P3, and its primary relevance is as a marker of genomic evolution or as a confounding factor in genetic analyses rather than as a meaningful biological target.
