Septin 14 pseudogene 5 (SEPTIN14P5) is a nonfunctional, noncoding genomic locus related to the Septin 14 gene. Pseudogenes such as SEPTIN14P5 typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition and accumulate mutations that prevent functional protein expression. They are generally silent but can sometimes be transcribed and may have a regulatory role in gene expression through noncoding RNA interactions, though this function is not widely established.
