Septin-4 (SEPTIN4)

Target
SEPTIN4
Molecular classification
Cytoskeletal protein, Filament-forming GTPase, Septin family
01

Overview

Septin-4 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase of the septin family, implicated in key cellular processes such as cytokinesis, cytoskeletal organization, and apoptosis[7][2]. It exists in multiple isoforms; notably, the ARTS isoform localizes to mitochondria and distinctively promotes apoptosis by antagonizing XIAP, setting it apart from other septins[1][2]. Septin-4 is required for the formation of the sperm annulus, and thus is essential for male fertility and sperm motility[2][7]. It is also linked to neuronal migration, hematopoietic stem cell regulation, and is expressed predominantly in the brain and heart[2][4]. Disease associations include cancer (via apoptotic regulation), male infertility, and certain neurological conditions[2][6]. No approved drugs are known to directly target Septin-4 as of the latest public datasets.
