Septin 4 antisense RNA 1 (SEPTIN4-AS1)

Target
SEPTIN4-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

SEPTIN4-AS1 (Septin 4 antisense RNA 1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located at cytogenetic region 17q22[6]. It is transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the SEPTIN4 protein-coding gene. While the canonical function of SEPTIN4-AS1 is not currently annotated, antisense lncRNAs frequently modulate the expression or splicing of their associated sense genes (here, SEPTIN4), possibly affecting cytoskeletal organization, cell division, and apoptosis indirectly via regulation of SEPTIN4[2][4][6]. However, experimental evidence for specific functions, disease associations, or therapeutic relevance of SEPTIN4-AS1 is lacking.
