Septin 7 pseudogene 4 (SEPTIN7P4)

Target
SEPTIN7P4
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene; not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.)
01

Overview

Septin 7 pseudogene 4 is a non-protein-coding segment of DNA on the human genome, homologous to the functional Septin 7 gene but lacking the ability to encode a functional septin protein. Unlike the SEPTIN7 gene, which is part of the cytoskeletal septin protein family involved in cell division and implicated in neurological diseases and cancer, the pseudogene variant SEPTIN7P4 does not participate in cellular functions or serve as a drug target. The SEPTIN7 gene is a member of the septin family of cytoskeletal proteins involved in actin organization, mitosis, and ciliogenesis, and is linked to certain neuropathies and processes like cytokinesis. Pseudogenes like SEPTIN7P4, however, do not carry the same functional or therapeutic relevance—they neither encode a protein nor act as a conventional molecular target for drugs or diagnostics. SEPTIN7P4 is a pseudogene, not a functional protein-coding gene, and therefore should not be considered a therapeutic target or biomarker for drug development or disease monitoring.
