SEPTIN7 antisense RNA 1 (SEPT7-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed in an antisense direction to the protein-coding SEPTIN7 gene. It is found on human chromosome 7q31.2. SEPT7-AS1 does not encode a protein, but regulates cellular processes at the RNA level—particularly gene expression regulation, cell cycle progression, DNA repair, apoptosis, and immune cell infiltration. Downregulation of SEPT7-AS1 is associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer and possibly other tumors. Its abnormal expression is found in various cancers and is considered to play a regulatory role in tumor progression, making it both a prognostic biomarker and a potential future therapeutic target. SEPTIN7 antisense RNA 1 is not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but rather a regulatory non-coding RNA. There are currently no approved drugs or experimental therapies specifically targeting this lncRNA, but it may be considered for therapeutic targeting or as a biomarker in oncology.
