Serine peptidase inhibitor Kazal type 8 (SPINK8) is a predicted serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor belonging to the Kazal-type serine peptidase inhibitor family. Its function involves negative regulation of protease activity, especially serine proteases, and it is likely to be located extracellularly. SPINK8 is expressed in multiple tissues. While well-characterized roles exist for other SPINK family members in cancer and inflammation, SPINK8’s biological and disease involvement remains less studied. Recent high-throughput transcriptomic analysis suggests differential expression in certain cancers (e.g., reduced expression in carcinoma tissues compared to normal), with potential links to immune infiltration and tumor prognosis.
