Trypsin-1 (PRSS1)

Target
PRSS1
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine protease, Serine endopeptidase
01

Overview

Trypsin-1 (PRSS1), also known as cationic trypsinogen, is a serine protease enzyme that plays a crucial role in protein digestion. Synthesized in the pancreas as an inactive precursor, it is activated in the small intestine to its mature form, trypsin. Trypsin-1 cleaves peptide bonds at lysine or arginine residues and activates other proenzymes involved in digestion. Mutations in PRSS1 are associated with hereditary pancreatitis.
