PRSS38
Molecular classification

Overview

Serine protease 38 (PRSS38) is a member of the serine-type endopeptidase (protease) family, encoded by the PRSS38 gene in humans as well as orthologs in mouse (Prss38) and rat (Prss38). It is predicted to catalyze the hydrolysis of peptide bonds in a range of biological processes, including general proteolysis, by acting in the extracellular region. Its enzymatic function is based on a characteristic serine residue in the active site. The gene is expressed in multiple tissues and is under investigation for its expression in various cancer types, though its precise physiological and disease roles are still being determined. There are no known approved drugs or therapeutic agents targeting this molecule, and it has no established use as a biomarker as of current evidence.
