Serine protease 44, pseudogene (PRSS44P), also known as TESSP4, is listed as a pseudogene in humans, meaning it has lost its protein-coding capability and does not produce a functional protein[2][4]. While the mouse ortholog (Prss44) is a functional testis-specific serine protease expressed during spermatogenesis, its knockout does not affect male fertility in mice, implying redundancy or nonessential function. In humans, PRSS44 is an unprocessed pseudogene, and there is no evidence it serves as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or has any validated biological or disease associations[4].
